This is a summary of the E46 LSx conversion. There are other links with more detail of the components of the project.
The donor was a Pontiac G8 GT with an L76 (LS2 short block with LS3 heads and manifold). We also brought with it the 6 speed automatic (6L80E) transmission.
The engine and transmission were transplanted into a E46 (BMW 3 series coupe).
The customer’s requests:
BMW to remain stock in appearance, inside and out. All the components work – Heater/AC, PS, ABS, original gauges, BMW shift selector,…
Other items:
– Reinforced sub-frame rear and front (M3 tower brace, lower custom steel tubing)
– Installed M3 rear sub-assembly with differential
– Installed Ground Control coil-overs with Koni double adjustable shocks and camber plates
– Vorshlag stainless steel (ss) headers
– Modified headers to work with automatic and built ss mandrel system to rear
– Wilwood front brakes, 6 piston
– Engine: L76 (LS2 short block with LS3 heads and intake) cam change and cylinder de-activiation removed
– BMW performance radiator
– GM cooling fan
– Cold air intake
– BMW chassis un-modified, that is, could go back to stock
